Our team of archaeological specialists have extensive experience in the recovery, cleaning, identification and recording of archaeological objects. IAC’s post-excavation department are fully equipped to provide a comprehensive service to fulfil our client’s requirements from discovery to museum deposition.
We routinely manage both rural and urban excavations ranging in scale from individual finds to complex multi-period assemblages and have a proven ability to disseminate the results of our work through publication and public presentations.
Our methods conform with best practice guidelines and codes of practice for working with archaeological objects, including the Standards published by the National Museum of Ireland in April 2022. The Post-Excavation Department and team of artefact specialists are based in our dedicated, secure facility in Kilcoole.
Services provided include:
- Liaison with relevant conservation services
- Post-excavation processing and cleaning of artefacts.
- Registration to applicable standards for accession.
- Artefact identification, analysis and reporting.
- Including, but not limited to, medieval pottery, post-medieval pottery, prehistoric pottery, metal, stone, lithics, etc.
- Artefact illustration, photogrammetry, digitisation and photography.
- Archiving and preparation for accession to the National Museum of Ireland.
