Mungret to Inchmore Gas Pipeline

Project overview

IAC undertook archaeological monitoring of ground works associated with the Mungret to Inchmore Gas Pipeline and three Above Ground Installations (AGIs) to the south of Limerick. The route corridor, which measured c. 7.1km, extended east from the N69 to terminate at Inchmore near the R512 Ballyneety Road. All topsoil stripping within the 30m working width of the pipeline route was subject to continuous archaeological monitoring.

Three sites of archaeological significance were identified at this time, one of which, a small burnt mound at ‘BGN Ballykeeffe 2’, was preserved in-situ. The remaining two sites were subject to preservation by record, i.e. excavation. ‘BGN Ballykeeffe 1’ represented the remains of a second burnt mound and ‘BGN Bohereen 1’ appeared to be a Bronze Age round house.
