Derrysallagh Wind Farm
Project overview
IAC were contracted to undertake an archaeological, architectural & cultural heritage EIA of a wind farm development at Derrysallagh, Co. Sligo. Field inspection carried out to inform the assessment identified a number of upland industrial heritage sites in the form of coal mining works. Two ruinous vernacular structures were found to be located in close proximity to one of the turbine sites. A recorded holy well and St. Elva’s Grave (RMP SL035-073), was also located within the proposed development area, situated along a pilgrim path.
The assessment of visual impacts was aided by the creation of photomontages, showing the rectified location of wind turbines within the landscape and in association with sites of cultural heritage significance. The archaeological and cultural heritage recommendations within the planning application were approved by Sligo County Council.
