ARCHAEOLOGIST SHOWING ARTEFACTSMembers of the public gather to see the excavation
Project overview
As part of Heritage Week IAC opened up one of our excavation sites to the public. A significant early medieval settlement site was excavated at Blessington, Co. Wicklow in advance of a residential development.
Site Director Muireann Ní Cheallacháin and her team welcomed over 300 members of the public, and provided tours of the active excavation.
This involved a discussion of the archaeological findings and an explanation of how archaeologists do their job. Evidence for industrious craft activities such as metal working and possible glass manufacturing was identified and a range of artefacts from this and similar sites were shared by members of our post-excavation team. This event was generously supported by Cairn Homes.
