IAC carried out an archaeological and cultural heritage assessment to inform a master plan for a proposed rezoning and redevelopment of the Mountjoy Prison site. The site was complex, containing a number of protected structures, unmarked burials and was rich in cultural heritage both written and oral. Our role was to assess the archaeological and cultural significance of the site and to assess the impact that any proposed development would have on these elements. The assessment not only required full historical map analysis and a review of the desktop information, but involved a full field inspection with the design team along with consultation with members of the prison staff and statutory bodies.
