IAC carried out an archaeological excavation at Ballystockart Quarry, Ballystockart Road, Comber, Newtownards, Co. Down. The excavation area measured approximately 2210m² and contained three distinct clusters of archaeological features. Three circular early medieval structures were recorded in Area A associated with pits and postholes and a post-medieval ditch. Early medieval souterrain ware pottery was retrieved from the structures and a radiocarbon date placed the activity in the range of AD 600–669. A second area contained a gully enclosure which has been dated between the 7th and 9th centuries. A red glass bead was found in this gully associated with more early medieval pottery. A single early-mid Bronze Age cremation burial pit was excavated in the third area which contained the remains of a late adolescent/ adult male.
