IAC prepared an archaeological and architectural heritage assessment for an EIA of the proposed deepening of an existing quarry and the provision of a filtration/percolation area at Rossmore Quarry, Co. Cork. A geophysical survey was also undertaken as part of the EIA which identified a number of anomalies outside of the development area. The site of the proposed percolation/ filtration system comprised of a narrow section of pasture which had been partially disturbed in the 19th century with the construction and demolition of several outbuildings. Given the location of the south-facing site within proximity to the estuary shoreline, and several recorded middens, the potential for previously unrecorded archaeological feature or deposits was highlighted in the report.
