The N21 Killarney Pole to Barnagh Road Safety Scheme comprises the realignment of c. 3.17km of the N21 west of Newcastle West together with the realignment of Local Roads and rationalisation of existing junctions and direct accesses.
The N21 National Primary Route provides a strategic link from Limerick to the south-west of the country, passing through the towns of Adare, Newcastle West, Abbeyfeale and Castleisland to its terminus in Tralee. The subject section of the N21 is located 3km south-west of the town of Newcastle West in County Limerick. This section of the N21 has been the location of numerous road traffic accidents, including a number of fatal accidents, and the subject scheme is proposed for the purpose of improving safety for road users.
